About the SYSA Deckhand Course
The SYSA Deckhand course takes place over 3 days and is an extremely valuable training programme that includes all of the information needed for entering the super yachting industry. We run parts of the course onboard Motor Yachts in the V&A Marina to give the crew their first hands-on experience of learning onboard multi million-rand vessels.
This 3-day course covers many different topics including:
- Introduction to yachting and deckhand duties and responsibilities
- Safety procedures and emergency protocols
- Basic seamanship and deck equipment, including knots and splices, deck gear, and lines and fenders
- Maintenance and cleaning tasks, including washing, varnishing, and polishing
